Hi there John,

I’m Senator Shevrin Jones. I represent Florida’s 34th District in the State Senate – and I’m the first openly LGBTQ Black person elected to the Florida Legislature.

Right now, Americans across the country are celebrating Black History Month by lifting up Black voices and honoring those who came before us.

But here in Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis and Republican legislators are working overtime to erase Black history and ban students from learning the truth.

Ron DeSantis has waged a war on education and relentlessly attacked efforts to teach Black history. Will you sign the Democrats Serve petition condemning DeSantis’ shameful policies? [[link removed]]

Last year, DeSantis championed the “Stop WOKE Act,” effectively banning any efforts to teach the truth about systemic racism and racial injustices. And just last month, DeSantis rejected the new AP African American History course, saying it lacked “educational value.”

They’re trying to ban the truth – and we can’t let them. Our schools should be teaching about all of our history. Anything less is a disservice to each and every student in our state.

John, will you sign the Democrats Serve petition condemning Ron DeSantis’ efforts to erase Black history and demanding Florida students learn the truth about our history?

Thanks for signing on,

Senator Shevrin Jones

Democrats Serve is a national organization that backs Democrats running for office with frontline public service backgrounds, including first responders, firefighters, social workers, police officers, prosecutors, judges, public defenders, educators, and more.

Democratic candidates with professional experience serving their communities in government have a pragmatic approach to governing and know how to get things done, making for strong narratives and an ability to connect with voters uniquely.

However, when running for office, they often lack access to the professional campaign staff and wealthy donor networks that non-working class candidates do.
