NPH ASKS THE GOVERNOR TO GO BIGGER ON AFFORDABLE HOUSING

We were glad to see that in his 2020 budget proposal, Governor Gavin Newsom offered continued support for critical affordable housing policies and programs like the low-income housing tax credit expansion, and also made exciting new commitments to homelessness services and prevention.

But as Mercury News reported, NPH and many other affordable housing groups had hoped to see the Governor go further. With a historic state budget surplus of $5.6 billion, we believe now is the time to increase investments in affordable housing, re-invest in our communities, and create a California for all.

That's why a coalition of California's leading affordable housing organizations, including NPH, encouraged the Governor to "make a significant investment in addressing the crisis with a $5 billion commitment of state resources that will begin to fill the significant gaps in current funding." In the letter, we proposed four key budget items as well as two structural reforms that would streamline affordable housing finance.

This crisis has been decades in the making, and it will take both transformative solutions and significantly more investment to close the state's gap of 1.4 million affordable homes. Click here to read our full statement on Gov. Newsom’s 2020 budget proposal.

YES ON MEASURE E

Attention San Jose members and partners: NPH strongly supports Measure E in San Jose, which is now the most expensive city in America to buy a home. Measure E is a common-sense solution for affordable housing that will help support investments to provide affordable housing for veterans, seniors, teachers and first responders, will help fund more innovative housing solutions like more housing options near existing transit, and will help support services to transition the homeless off the streets and into housing. Learn more about Measure E here and join with other local housers for a Day of Action on February 1.

This month, NPH joined SV@Home, All Home, Eden Housing, and many other partners and advocates for the Yes on E campaign kickoff to get voters educated and mobilized to vote for Measure E on March 3.

We're fired up!
