We are currently reviewing the first reports from organisations receiving SAAF grants under Round 6 of our funding. We're pleased to say that our new online reporting system is working well and we are already receiving positive comments from grantee partners (and will continue to collect feedback).

"Have enjoyed working on a different reporting format and the questions have definitely encouraged us to think more about specific changes that we observe." - SAAF grantee partner

Thanks to representatives from six grantee partner organisations in Kenya for their engagement at a recent meeting organised in Nairobi.

KELIN, TICAH, Women Spaces Africa, RMHC-K, K-PEN and an anonymous organisation met along with Phonsina from the SAAF team to discuss strategies for service delivery, awareness raising and advocacy. Participants have agreed shared actions to take forward as well as set up a dedicated What's App group for continuing the conversation!
News and updates
  • Following the complete decriminalisation of abortion up to 24 weeks in Colombia, the Ministry of Health recently released a resolution which outlines the standard of care all people seeking abortion have a right to receive. Read more about this important milestone in a blogpost by SAAF grantee partner Fundación Si Mujer.
  • SAAF grantee partner RAWSA has created an app to provide people in the MENA region with accurate information and support on sexual and reproductive health. You can read more about the app here.

  • In Namibia, VCRC noted that access to affordable, non-judgemental reproductive health care and information was lacking and sought SAAF funding to establish a Reproductive Justice Centre in Windhoek.

  • It's been two years since Thailand liberalised its abortion law, but SAAF grantee partner Tamtang warns that services are still not accessible to all. Earlier this month they carried out a demonstration outside the Ministry of Health to mark the anniversary of the law change and advocate for better implementation.
  • SAAF partners in Kenya were pleased to see the government approve guidance on self-care for reproductive health - making Kenya one of the first African countries to domesticate the WHO guidelines on self-care health interventions.

The YP Foundation (TYPF) is a youth-led organisation that facilitates young people’s feminist and rights-based leadership on issues of health equity, gender justice, sexuality rights, and social justice.

TYPF first started receiving SAAF funding in 2020. Their Safe Abortion For Everyone (SAFE) programme aims to improve access to resources and information around safe and legal abortion services. The programme achieves this through evidence generation, capacity building, and youth-led advocacy in the two Indian states of Kerala and Assam.

TYPF also leads a fellowship that builds the capacities of young people to advocate for the abortion rights of different marginalised communities through audits and on-ground and digital social action projects.
