Here's how the ICRC is helping communities affected by the earthquakes

When the Türkiye-Syria earthquake struck the region, families and friends were killed, homes were destroyed, and people were displaced yet again. Days after, people are still enormously shaken by the devastation around them.

In north-west Syria, the quake hit a region already battered by 12 years of conflict. Weakened buildings collapsed like pieces of dominoes. Following the quake, even those who had a permanent home have nowhere to shelter.

The ICRC is working to support the emergency relief efforts of our partner, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. In parallel to the much-needed relief efforts, for the past 12 years, the ICRC has worked to prevent the collapse of critical infrastructure so that communities maintain at least minimal access to essential services such as safe water and health care.

160 years on the side of humanity

Millions of men and women.

160 years of service.

One desire.

To alleviate human suffering. To provide assistance to the most vulnerable people. Wherever they are.

The ICRC was founded by Henry Dunant, back in 1863, on the principle that a person’s political opinions, class, nationality, gender and beliefs will never determine who receives aid. Only one thing matters: Who is in need?

160 years down the line, our neutrality enables us to cross front lines.
