B.C. ambulance paramedics and dispatchers ratify 3-year collective agreement

Over 4,500 British Columbia ambulance paramedics and dispatchers have voted 96 per cent in favour of ratifying a three-year contract that could result in wage increases of as much as 13 per cent.
"That's a really encouraging mandate that's recognizing the significance of this collective agreement," said Troy Clifford, president of the Ambulance Paramedics of B.C.

Frontenac County approves 2 new paramedic shifts in Kingston

West Shore doctors call for physician-assistant pilot project

Emergency-medicine specialists at a busy West Shore clinic want to host a physician-assistant pilot program, promising to increase the number of patients treated at a lower cost while attaching more patients to doctors. Dr. Charles Sun and Dr. Jane Moran said they could increase by 50 per cent the number of patients they see, and cut the number of patients without a doctor in Langford and Juan de Fuca to 1,600 from 8,000.

Alberta government announces $4 million for Calgary Drop-In Centre's overdose response team

The Alberta government is providing $4 million in funding to the Calgary Drop-In Centre to establish more pre-treatment beds and a “dynamic overdose response team” for those struggling with addiction. The funding aims to establish 15 medical detox and 20 pre-treatment beds to support up to 1,000 Calgarians every year, Mental Health and Addictions Minister Nicholas Milliken told reporters recently.

Paramedic presented with Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal

Long-time Jasper paramedic Rob Prinz recently received the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of his service to the province. Prinz was nominated for this medal by the Alberta Paramedic Association. He has been a first responder in Jasper National Park since 1992.
