John,

Donald Trump just went on TV and said that he’s targeting cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.1

CNBC: One last question… [will] entitlements ever be on your plate?
TRUMP: At some point they will be. [...] It’ll be toward the end of the year.

“Entitlements” is the word the elite use when they want to belittle the programs the American people pay into with every paycheck. The truth is, these are earned benefits. It’s no surprise that these comments come at the World Economic Forum in Davos, an annual gathering of the super-rich.

At one point in the interview, CNBC’s Joe Kernen unironically describes the other attendees as “the plutocrats.” (He means it as a compliment!)

Donald Trump ran in 2016 on a promise to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. His first three years in the White House show that was a lie. Every budget he’s proposed has contained trillions in cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. He’s pushed legislation like Trumpcare, which would have destroyed Medicaid and devastated Medicare. And his administration is proposing regulations that put more red tape between people on Social Security and their benefits.

Now, he’s indicated that he’s coming after all three, “toward the end of the year.”

Social Security Works has led the fight against Trump’s cuts every step of the way, and we’re going to keep fighting every day. Chip in $8 to keep us strong!
