John,

I know I’ve talked to you about this before, but we’re at a crossroads: Social Security and Medicare are integral to protecting our nation’s seniors. Yet Republicans in Congress have long strived to undercut both programs. Now, the battle is coming to a head.

In the richest country on earth, too many seniors are living in poverty. As a doctor, I’ve seen many seniors who end up run down and sick because they can’t make ends meet. The bottom line is that we should be making it easier, not harder for them to access benefits.

We’re reaching the point of a showdown over these earned benefits. Which is why I’m counting on folks like you to stand firm in support of essential programs that improve the health and security of seniors. Become one of the 1,000 people I need to sign our petition by tomorrow night to fight for Social Security and Medicare. [[link removed]]

Speaker McCarthy has walked back his threats against America’s seniors for now, but we can’t count on that being the case forever. Rick Scott has been pushing legislation in the Senate to slash funding for our critical social programs, including Social Security.

The simple truth is that America’s seniors are already struggling to make ends meet. So their representatives should not be trying to make their lives harder, but easier. Sign on to make it clear we stand with seniors, not the GOP’s unpopular and harmful initiatives. [[link removed]]

I know from years of medical experience that seniors’ well-being is an essential building block for a healthy country—which is why I will always fight for them.

Be well,

Dr. Ami Bera
