John,

Today is the 47th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court case that determined that the right to legally obtain an abortion is a constitutional right. While today we celebrate this decision, it’s important to remember that access to abortion, especially for people of color, low-income folks, and the LGBTQ+ community, is under attack. At Voto Latino, today we’re not only celebrating the importance of Roe, but we’re also recommitting to fighting to ensure that all Latinxs have access to abortion.

But even 47 years later, Republicans and right-wing conservatives (mostly white men, surprise surprise) have been out to overturn it. Earlier this month, more than 200 Republicans and two Democrats (again, both white men) signed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court urging them to review Roe v. Wade in 2020 and repeal the rights granted by this case – rights that have continuously been upheld by judges across the country.

What conservatives won’t accept is that reproductive choice, including access to affordable birth control and abortion, is supported by the majority of Americans, including the Latinx community. Research shows 73% of Latinx voters want to see SCOTUS uphold the right to abortion, and 87% say they would support a loved one who received one – because that’s what our community does, we support each other.

At Voto Latino, we believe that abortion is health care and a human right. The fight for reproductive choice is about bodily autonomy and the right for us and those in our community to decide the fate of our own lives. No politician should be able to take that away.

If you’re with us and tired of the attacks, pitch in $10 or more to support Voto Latino on today’s Roe v. Wade anniversary as we work to register and engage Latinx voters and kick out the politicians attacking our basic right to reproductive choice >>

The more we can educate, engage and empower our community, the stronger we’ll be as we stand up against these attacks on our right to choose.
