Friend,

Walter Cronkite once said that “journalism is what we need to make democracy work.”

He was 100 percent correct—and given the state of journalism today, it’s no wonder our democracy is in trouble.

With an ever-shrinking number of giant conglomerates like Disney, Comcast, and Amazon controlling most of what we see and hear in the news, corporations are able to control the political agenda, squeezing out critical viewpoints and sidelining solutions that challenge the status quo or threaten their wealth and power.

It’s no exaggeration to say that the fight for independent media is a fight for the survival of democracy, and one of the essential keys to our survival is our base of recurring monthly donors.

Common Dreams readers are not super-wealthy plutocrats like those who run the corporate media, and we know most of our supporters can’t afford to write big checks. But by donating just $5, $10, or $20 a month, they provide the essential foundation of support that makes everything we do possible.

That’s our question today: Can you become a recurring monthly donor to support the independent journalism of Common Dreams? You can give any amount and cancel at any time.

Yes, I’ll donate monthly.

No, but I’ll make a one-time donation.
Thank you,
