Democracy scores a win in battleground Wisconsin
Pro-democracy jurist Janet Protasiewicz advances to April 4 general election
Democracy prevailed in a critical test last night during the nonpartisan primary election for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. We’re thrilled to report that pro-democracy champion Janet Protasiewicz won and will be on the ballot for the April 4 general election.
The most consequential election this year: This race has monstrous consequences, and we need your voice to amplify just how important it is.
Commenting on her primary victory, Protasiewicz said, “We’re saving our democracy in the state of Wisconsin. That’s what I’m explaining to people. I’m talking about the ability to vote, to have a vote that counts about women’s rights, reproductive freedoms, the fact that the 2024 presidential election results could likely come into our Supreme Court chamber, just everything people care about.”
The sprint is on to help her win the general election against Daniel Kelly who would continue the awful anti-democracy legacy of the court. A win on April 4 will flip Wisconsin’s Supreme Court to a pro-democracy 4-to-3 majority and begin to reverse the terrible decisions being made there.
Why does this matter? A pro-democracy majority on the Court would:
- Protect and ensure the results of Wisconsin’s free and fair 2024 elections
- Protect and preserve voting rights
- Strengthen democracy by dealing with Wisconsin’s extreme gerrymandering
- Restore balance and reasonableness to laws regarding women’s healthcare by overturning Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban, one of the harshest in the nation.
The fight for democracy continues. Stay up to date with opportunities to help remind Wisconsinites how important this race is and to turn out the vote on April 4.
It will take all of us,
The Union
