The one thing the GOP has done with control of the House.
Republicans have controlled the House of Representatives for seven weeks and haven’t passed a single bill.
What they have done — rather than lowering the cost of groceries or capping corporate price gouging — is repeal a rule that prohibits Members of Congress from bringing guns into committee hearing rooms.
It's never been more clear that the GOP is more concerned with their far-right agenda than improving the lives of everyday people. If you can support AOC’s fight for what matters most to working families, can you chip in $5HPC today?
While guns are prohibited in the House and Senate chambers and adjacent areas, Democrats installed metal detectors after the January 6th insurrection to ensure the rules were being followed by the new crop of far-right extremists elected to office.
In the same vein, after Rep. Lauren Boebert joined the Natural Resources Committee in January 2021, the committee quickly added a written amendment to their rules that guns were expressly forbidden from its hearing room.1
Then this term, within days of Republicans finally selecting a Speaker of the House, the metal detectors were gone.2
And when AOC asked the new Republican Chair of the Natural Resources Committee whether or not he believed firearms should be allowed in committee, he said simply, ‘I believe it’s up to every member of the House to follow the House rules.’
While Republicans are more worried about protecting guns than people, AOC is keeping up the pressure on accountability for corporate price gouging, divestment from fossil fuels, and health care for all. If AOC can count on your support today, please chip in here →
