In Home Vaccinations

If you or a loved one have difficulty leaving the home to get vaccinated against COVID-19, you can request in-home vaccination by calling 2-1-1 or the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Vaccine Call Center at 833-540-0473 (8am-8:30pm; 7 days a week).

Residents can also fill out the online request form (multiple language options available)or visit ph.lacounty.gov/vaxathome for more information. Referrals from caregivers, loved ones, organizations, agencies, providers (among others) are welcome. All doses are available for eligible individuals ages 6 months and older at no cost.

The Bivalent COVID-19 booster is also available for eligible individuals. Other family members or caregivers can be vaccinated during the same visit. For resources related to paratransit and free rides for vaccination, call the Public Health Vaccine Call Center or visit the How To Get Vaccinated page.

Grant Opportunity: LA County Department of Mental Health

Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) in collaboration with the California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA) is excited to announce a grant program with awards of up to $150,000 per grantee to promote well-being and community connection in Los Angeles County.

The grant program is developed for programs to coincide with May Mental Health Awareness Month and foster community connection as a part of LACDMH's Take Action for Mental Health L.A. County campaign. Events submitted for consideration should take place during the months of May and June 2023, and focus on decreasing stigma and discrimination, increasing help seeking behaviors, increasing awareness of and access to mental health services and resources or any activities that address one or more negative effects of untreated mental illness.

Grants will be awarded to organizations that promote mental health and well-being through community engagement. Grant proposals must be submitted through CalMSHA’s e-procurement portal at calmhsa.bonfirehub.com, and proposals are being accepted now through March 3, 2023, 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Postbaccalaureate Research and Training Program

Natural History Museum of LA County is now recruiting applications for a postbaccalaureate research and training program called Understanding Nature and Los Angeles Biodiversity (UNLAB). Supported by a highly competitive $2.9 million grant from the National Science Foundation over the course of three years, UNLAB is intended for postbaccalaureates (those who have graduated with an undergraduate B.S. or B.A. degree) who are interested in graduate school and/or a career in biodiversity-related science and have not had substantial research experience. Successful applicants will participate in a 1-year, full-time, paid position (with benefits) at the Museum where they will be trained in biodiversity science research methods. Mentored projects this year will be in the following departments: botany/fossil plants, malacology (mollusks), vertebrate paleontology, invertebrate paleontology, ichthyology, ornithology (birds), mammalogy (mammals), and herpetology (reptiles). The application deadline is March 3. NHMLAC encourages applications from individuals belonging to groups that are underrepresented in biological science and/or who have experienced barriers to participating in a mentored research opportunity.
