As the Senate begins its deliberations on the laughable Articles of Impeachment sent over from the House of Representatives, it is important to see this action for what it is: a partisan political rebuke of the millions of Americans who elected Donald Trump as President in 2016. It is also an attempt to score more Senate seats in the November election in the hope of gaining a Democrat majority in the Senate. As The Federalist's David Marcus describes, the precedent this impeachment sets is chilling for our country and its principles. Let's hope the GOP will be strong. Reprinted with permission. Senate Republicans Must Save American Democracy

This week, in the United States Senate, Democrats launched one of the most cynical attacks on democratic norms our nation has ever endured. That may sound severe, especially given the farcical nature of the impeachment of Donald Trump and the laughable odds that the Senate may remove him. But it’s true. For all the years of breathless accusations that Trump is the norm-breaker in chief, what we saw Tuesday morning is the shattering not just of a norm, but of the very basic notion that Americans are a free people who elect their own leaders.
