Hi John, my name is Maritza, and I am Maxwell Frost’s mom! I cannot begin to express how proud I am of him – and to call my own son “Congressman.” I want to tell you a bit of our story so you understand what his journey and this moment means to all of us.

My mother, Yeya, brought me to the United States at a very young age after fleeing from Cuba. I watched her work 70+ hours a week to provide for us. Like her, my husband and I faced challenges when building our little family – adopting Maxwell and having his sister three years later – but together we all made the best of any situation.

Growing up, we taught Maxwell about the importance of understanding politics and standing up for his beliefs. When some kids were out playing video games, Maxwell was watching an endless stream of Obama’s speeches and memorizing them.

After the Sandy Hook Shooting happened, he flew to Washington DC at 15 years old for the vigil and to lobby members of Congress to pass gun legislation that would save lives. From that day forward, he never stopped organizing.

I know my mom would be immensely proud to see her grandson become a Congressman because she knew the importance of having someone like Maxwell representing us in Congress.

I’ve watched Maxwell work in a supermarket, a car dealership, as an Uber driver, campaigning across Florida for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, Bernie Sanders, and the ACLU. And throughout EVERY position he’s held, he’s always put the people first.

I’ve also had to witness the challenges that came with running for Congress, and piles of hate from a lot of people. As a mother, this kept me up at night, but I knew that the outcome of his success would benefit not just the people of FL-10, but the country and every young person in it.

John, Maxwell is up against some of the most powerful people in the country and there is only so much I can do to help him keep his seat and be the representative we all deserve.
