Israel killed 10 Palestinians and injured 100 more, the Biden administration MUST hold the Israeli government accountable and cut US aid to stop Israel’s violations of international law Dear Email, This morning, Israel killed 10 Palestinians and injured 100 more in the city of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank. Americans for Justice in Palestine Action (AJP Action) condemns Israel’s brazen attack and holds the Biden Administration accountable for Israel’s assault on Nablus. This assault by Israel occurred just three days after the Biden administration successfully pressured and intimidated the Palestinian Authority to suspend its efforts to push for a vote at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) condemning Israel's newest settlement plans in the occupied West Bank. AJP Action denounces the Biden administration’s complicity in the occupation of the Palestinian people and condemns its refusal to pressure Israel. The resolution was presented by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the UNSC and called for Israel to “immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory.” The resolution's text reaffirmed that the creation of settlements by Israel in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, which includes East Jerusalem, has no legal validity and constitutes a clear breach of international law. The resolution was a response to Israel's announcement last week that legalized nine outposts in the West Bank and approved the planning and building of 10,000 new housing units in existing settlements. Despite claiming to oppose unilateral moves by Israel, including the expansion of settlements, because they undermine the "two-state solution," the Biden Administration has only paid lip service to this stance, following in the footsteps of its predecessors. The Biden administration pressured and intimidated the Palestinian Authority (PA) to put the vote in the UNSC on hold in exchange for a symbolic presidential statement from the UN Security Council condemning Israeli settlements. However, Israel committed to several conditions, the most important of which are: - Temporarily suspending unilateral actions in the West Bank, including new announcements on settlement building for several months.
- Suspending the demolitions of Palestinian homes and evictions for a few months.
- Decreasing the number of Israeli military raids in Palestinian cities.
Israel has demonstrated that it has no intention of respecting any of its obligations and is continuing to carry out criminal acts and apartheid policies. The attack on Nablus, which occurred just three days after the US-brokered agreement, is merely a preview of what is to come. In fact, on the same day as the attack in Nablus, Israeli soldiers invaded two villages in the occupied West Bank, Al-Walaja west of Bethlehem, and Dyouk At-Tahta north of Jericho, and demolished two Palestinian homes, claiming that they were constructed without permits from the so-called “Civil Administration Office," the administrative branch of the illegal Israeli occupation. AJP Action calls on the Biden administration to condemn Israel’s attack, hold the Israeli government accountable for this escalation, and cut US aid to stop Israel’s brazen violations of international law. |
