New Research: $7.6 Billion Needed to Unlock 33,000 Affordable Homes in Bay Area

Map from BAHFA pipeline resource

Enterprise Community Partners and the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) recently released their Regional Affordable Housing Pipeline Research Brief (the Pipeline is one of BAHFA's first pilot programs) identifying the specific funding gap that stalls the completion of 395 affordable housing developments in various stages of pre-development. These Bay Area developments would create an estimated 32,944 affordable homes upon completion.

What’s needed to get these developments to the finish line? The analysis found that $7.6 billion in public financing is needed to move these homes forward.

Why This Matters This data helps make the case for a 2024 regional housing bond that can fund these developments to completion and give cities a running start toward meeting their affordable housing goals. NPH is working closely with our partners to develop the strategy needed to place two 2024 ballot initiatives (one at the state level and one at the regional level) that will dramatically shift how we can generate local funds to build more affordable housing and address homelessness.
