Listen up, Supporter:
The new House Republican majority is trying to silence your voice.
Within days of taking power, they launched attacks on the National Environmental Policy Act or NEPA. That one law is why you have a say in whether or not we drill in the Arctic or build pipelines like KeystoneXL.
And this new 118th Congress isn't interested in your opinion when it comes to the environment. They're far more interested in doing the bidding of industries that seek to profit from our natural resources.

That's why we're setting a goal of 118 Sierra Club renewing gifts by Friday, February 24, and I'm hoping that

You and I both know that this new Republican majority would not be friendly to the environment. But it's still shocking to see how quickly and forcefully they've acted.
Just days after taking power, they introduced the "Permitting for Mining Needs Act", a bill that takes direct aim at NEPA by limiting your opportunity to comment on mining permits.1
Yep, that includes a new proposal in Idaho for a massive open-pit gold mine that would leach cyanide and extend more than 700 feet beneath the East Fork South Fork Salmon River, threatening endangered species in the area.2
And it's not just toxic mines they want to streamline. Under the guise of "energy independence", these anti-environment interests want to "unleash domestic fossil fuel production," streamline liquefied natural gas exports, and restore approval of the KeystoneXL pipeline.3
We're fighting back in every Congressional district across the country. The Sierra Club is one of the few environmental organizations with the reach and influence to stop these draconian attacks on our nation's environmental laws.
But our strength comes from our membership. And stopping these extremist ideas from gaining hold means pushing back with the same speed and force.

With each passing day, our planet's biodiversity and climate crises become more urgent. We can't afford to lose ground this year to politicians who only care about padding the pockets of polluters.
Thanks in advance for becoming a member and helping us defend our one and only planet.
