Yesterday, the Senate began the impeachment trial of the President. In the coming weeks, I'll likely be spending most of each day at my desk in the Senate hearing the serious allegations that the House has laid out against the President.

I am committed to treating this constitutional duty with the seriousness it deserves, which means approaching this trial as an impartial juror.

Every Senator took an oath to protect our Constitution, and I believe that obligates each of us to put country over party and be impartial jurors during this trial. If we're going to have a fair trial, the Senate should be allowed to hear from key witnesses and use all of the facts available to judge the charges against the President.

The American people deserve the truth about whether the President abused the power of his office for his own political gain. This isn't about partisan politics -- it's about due process and the integrity of our constitutional system.
