Dear John,
Recently, I shared the story of a little girl, Cassie*, who was lured into online sexual exploitation when she was just 12 years old.
Today I want to introduce you to another survivor of sexual exploitation, Mahila*, who now fights on behalf of others in the courtroom. She is the first IJM-rescued survivor to graduate law school.
But her proud achievement only came after much pain. Mahila was sold to a brutal brothel by her own family members—leading to three years of violent abuse at the hands of sex traffickers. She had nearly lost hope when IJM helped rescue her in 2005, but slowly she began to regain confidence in herself and her potential.

Because of the support of our donors, Mahila began to focus intently on her education, eventually attending law school and interning with IJM to help other vulnerable people. In July 2021, she graduated with her law degree as an attorney.
Mahila told IJM, “Whatever I have achieved in my life…is because of my IJM family. Thank you so much.”
