Climate change is about people. It impacts everyone, everywhere – especially families here in Nevada.

The effects of our climate crisis are clear:

1. The risk of drought across Las Vegas and the greater metro area is extremely high. From this point through 2050, the stress on our water supply will continue to worsen.

2. Heat waves are going to become more frequent. Look, no one likes those incredibly hot days – they’re dangerous, damage our ecosystem, and add stress to our power grid. By 2050, the number of heat wave days could jump drastically to 55 days per year.

3. Days where there’s an extreme risk for fire will only increase, too. Drought and heat waves exacerbate the risk for dangerous wildfires across Nevada.

Regardless of what some Republican officials claim, climate change is a real and present danger to our country.

Scientists have warned that if we don’t change course now – it will be too little, too late.

That is why I introduced a series of bills to solve the drought crisis and wildfire threats by funding scientific monitoring, establishing a national framework of water data to support research and innovation, investing in conservation technologies, and boosting infrastructure resources for water recycling.
