Our battle-tested blueprint for governance has produced tangible results for Floridians that can be a model for communities around the country. But, as Governor DeSantis made it clear to the crowds last night, Florida could not have achieved these results without its commitment to law enforcement. A commitment that the Governor and the state of Florida kept even when it wasn’t popular…even when many other states were turning their backs on the people who protect them.

But why was Florida so different? Because we believe that public safety is the foundation of success in any community:

You cannot have a strong economy if the streets aren’t safe...

You cannot have an effective education system if people don’t feel secure... 

None of it works unless you have the foundation of public safety. 

Because of that mentality, Florida’s crime rate is at a 50-year low. Contrast that with once-great American cities like New York City, Philadelphia, and Chicago that are suffering under failed, soft-on-crime leadership. Liberal policies endanger citizens, coddle criminals, deny justice to victims, and make it harder for law enforcement officers to do their job.... And the stats speak for themselves: 

• New York experienced a 23% surge in major crime in 2022 
• 500 Philadelphians were victims of homicides annually in both 2021 and 2022, a murder rate not seen since 1990 
• Total crime went up in Chicago by 41% in 2022 compared to 2021 

Not in Florida.

When the Left was calling to defund the police, Governor DeSantis took immediate action against their radical demands and signed the most comprehensive pro-law enforcement legislation in the nation.

Now, if local governments try to defund law enforcement in Florida, the Governor will override them and reinstate funding.

In 2020, when riots tore blue cities around America apart, Governor DeSantis acted to protect the people of Florida: calling up the National Guard, working with police and sheriff departments across the state, and ensuring that there were no violent protests in our communities. Just as importantly, the Governor also enacted anti-riot legislation – creating a zero-tolerance policy for those who would attack the brave men and women who serve and safeguard our communities. If you throw a bottle or a rock at a police officer in Florida, you’re not getting a slap on the wrist, you’re getting the inside of a jail cell.

We are a nation of laws. Restoring law and order must be a priority. To do that, we must be willing to stand up for the brave men and women who enforce those laws.
