Illinois’ most extreme Congressional Representative, Mary Miller, has been appointed to serve as the Vice Chair of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. Quite honestly, on a scale of 1 to 10, we are off the charts distressed on what this means to youths across the country.

Here’s a refresher on why Miller’s appointment to a leadership role over our nation’s education policy is so concerning:
1. She wants to mandate the teaching of religion in public schools, claiming “We need to tell our kids, they were created by God, they have a gift, they have a purpose and bring that back into the public school as a foundation.”
2. Her family supports a far-right private religious school whose textbooks teach students "God regulated but did not forbid slavery" and instruct them to argue in favor of counting slaves as three-fifths of a person without giving them any rights.
3. She was caught on camera approvingly quoting Hitler: “If we win a few elections, we’re still going to be losing unless we win the hearts and minds of our children… Hitler was right on one thing. He said, ‘Whoever has the youth has the future.’”
