Liz WillenDear reader,

With so many questions swirling about the future of higher education, The Hechinger Report this week took a deeper look at who is actually going to – and staying in – college.

If you’ve ever wondered how closely enrollment tracks the actual demographics of students, our story and charts created by columnist Jill Barshay will be illuminating – and somewhat troubling, because trends tells us there will be far fewer college-educated adults in the years to come.

We also bring you strong opinions this week on how students can catch up in math post-pandemic, drilling down on middle school, where the average eighth grader is now three years behind, and on ideas for teaching about climate change early – starting with the food children eat.

As always, we love to hear from our readers, so please get in touch – and remind others to sign up for our free newsletters.
