Stepping up into a leadership role can feel like summiting a career peak you've been climbing toward for years. And while it's rewarding, the view from on high may reveal more than a few perils you haven't previously navigated.
Fortunately, Poynter is here to outfit you with the skills you'll need to succeed. And we promise to stop comparing your career trajectory to mountaineering.
Applications close in just a few day — Feb. 27 — for Essential Skills for Rising Newsroom Leaders ([link removed]) . This five-day, on-site course is competitive, popular and will only be offered once in 2023.
Poynter hosts Essential Skills ([link removed]) because we know that being thrust into a leadership role can be thrilling and daunting. That's why we stand ready to help you establish credibility as a leader and manage people who were once your colleagues, friends or even your supervisors. In this workshop, you'll also learn to delegate effectively, respectively navigate difficult conversations, and get feedback and coaching designed to help not just you, but your staff. Past participants appreciated tips on better work-life chemistry, negotiation how-tos, and learning critical skills around recruiting and retaining top talent.
As for fending off grizzly bears, you're on your own. OK, that was the last one, we swear.
