Recently, Donald Trump posted a video detailing a score of anti-trans policies he’s pledging to put into place if he wins in 2024. I’m not going to share it, because frankly, it’s traumatizing. But I do want to respond.
As the sister of a trans brother and a gender-nonconforming sibling, let me tell you: Gender-affirming care is NOT abuse.
Trump’s new proposals go further than ignorant and cruel policy ideas, too. Hateful rhetoric from political leaders MATTERS. Over 150 anti-trans bills were introduced in 2022. There was a 12x increase in anti-LGBTQ+ incidents. The threats to the trans community are real, increasing, and deadly.
Trump is leading a campaign of hate that intentionally makes life more dangerous for queer and trans kids every single day.
But my Democratic colleagues and I are fighting back.
To every LGBTQ+ individual: I have your back. President Biden has your back. You belong. You deserve to live a life free from fear and violence. And you are perfect, just the way you are.
