John,
Last Tuesday, hundreds of our members and advocates from the Campaign for Access, Representation, and Equity for Immigrant Families took over the New York State Capitol to demand essential investments in legal service funding.
On the Million Dollar steps in the Capitol, we held a press conference to uplift the stories of community members and our legislative champions. Watch our Facebook livestream to hear from them!
We’re asking our leaders in Albany to deliver justice for all New Yorkers. Right now, immigrants do not have a right to an attorney if they are in deportation proceedings. This means that too many people are left to plead their cases alone with little understanding of immigration law and in an unfamiliar courtroom against trained government lawyers, often resulting in them being torn from their families, their communities, and the lives they’ve built in New York.
