Welcome to Wednesday, January 22nd, morning and night people...

The Senate adopted the rules for the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump on a party-line vote of 53-47.

All Democratic-introduced amendments were killed by Senate Republicans.

The rules, introduced by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), give each side 24 hours for opening arguments, postpone the question of calling witnesses until later in the trial, and requires a vote on whether to admit evidence collected as part of the House’s inquiry.

"The reason this was kept hidden is that this does not prescribe a process for a fair trial," House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA), the lead impeachment manager, told reporters Tuesday. "This is not the process for a fair trial. This is a process for a rigged trial."

The White House praised McConnell’s resolution.

"House Democrats insisted that the impeachment process needed to be sped up, and now that the McConnell resolution takes them at their word, they suddenly want to slow it all down. House Democrats can't have it both ways," said White House legislative director Eric Ueland.

CDC Confirms First U.S. Case of Wuhan Coronavirus

The Wuhan virus has reached the U.S., infecting a person in Washington State, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Tuesday.

The virus – which has been traced to a seafood and poultry market in Wuhan, China – has killed at least six people and sickened hundreds more across Asia.

Beginning last Friday, the CDC and the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have implemented enhanced health screenings on direct or connecting flights from Wuhan to SFO, JFK, and LAX airports.

“There are still more questions that we don’t know the answers to than things we do know,” Dr. William Schaffner, a professor of preventive medicine and infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, told the New York Times. “For example, what is the source? We don’t know exactly. The location likely was the live animal market, but we don’t know the particular animal.”
