The new data on gun trafficking in the United States is horrifying. Over 1 million guns were reported stolen between 2017-2021, according to a recent comprehensive report by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) – the first of its kind in over 20 years.¹ Even worse? The ATF estimates hundreds of thousands of other stolen guns were never even reported; the report also emphasizes that PA is one of the states that does not mandate the reporting of missing weapons.  We must reduce the flow of illegal guns fueling the gun violence epidemic. We must pass legislation in Pennsylvania to require lost and stolen gun reporting. 

Tell your legislators to act.
 

State Representatives Ben Sanchez and Malcolm Kenyatta have introduced legislation that would stem the pipeline of illegal guns creating death throughout our commonwealth, including the death of a 15-year old Altoona boy killed with a stolen gun.² And we don’t have any time to lose. More than 20 guns go missing in Pennsylvania every day.³ That’s 7,300 guns out there, each year, threatening our families and friends.

Almost every state that borders Pennsylvania requires lost and stolen guns to be reported to police. It’s time for Pennsylvania to step up.
