Friends and Residents of the 48th Congressional District,
We are only a month into the 2023 Congress, and we’re already seeing legislative success. My bill to protect sacred land of the Pala Band of Mission Indians here in San Diego passed the House without a single objection.
I also focused on efforts to support veterans including introducing legislation, the VETS Act, with Veterans Committee Chairman Bost to limit the fees attorneys can charge victims of water contamination at Camp Lejeune.
I also called on the Department of Veterans Affairs to restore accountability rules in health care delivery. You may recall the 2014 veterans’ health scandal in which secret care wait lists and other unthinkable failures led to great harm, including death. In response, Congress approved tools to swiftly punish or fire failing employees. These reforms are being undone, but I won’t let that happen because our veterans were promised and have earned great care.
Finally, the Select Subocommittee on the Weaponization of the Government held its first hearing. Former FBI agents detailed partisan, political and unethical behavior emerging at the bureau more recently. And, two U.S. Senators confirmed instances the FBI lied to Congress, the courts, and America. We have our work cut out for us – and this committee will uncover the truth.
Sincerely,
Darrell Issa Member of Congress
