Dear team,
Today marks 47 years since the U.S. Supreme Court issued its landmark decision in Roe v. Wade, the groundbreaking case recognizing abortion as a constitutional right. While Roe stands as the law of the land, extreme restrictions have placed abortion out of reach for many people in states across the country.
In the years since Roe, we have seen a growing number of attempts to strip us of our reproductive rights. In the face of these attacks, we've put together a new digital tool, What If Roe Fell, that shows the current state of abortion rights and access across the United States and the devastating landscape we could face should Roe be weakened or overturned.
Abortion is already difficult to access in many states and could become completely inaccessible in some regions of the U.S. if Roe is limited or overturned. In fact, abortion access would be at risk in almost half of U.S. states. To learn more about the state of abortion rights and access and why it is so critical that we pass state and federal laws protecting abortion rights, you can check out What If Roe Fell right now.
It's clear that anti-abortion lawmakers are pushing forward in their attempts to undermine Roe and take away our right to access safe, legal abortion services. As we celebrate this landmark anniversary, I know that we will be prepared to fight at a moment's notice to protect our reproductive rights with you by our side.
Onward,
Nancy Northup
