Los Angeles Auxiliary Bishop’s Murder Suspect Arrested, Parishioners Mourn Lost Leader

National Review: Los Angeles police have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of Catholic auxiliary bishop David O’Connell, who was found dead in his home Saturday afternoon. O’Connell, 69, was found dead in his bed with a single gunshot wound to the chest by sheriff’s deputies who were responding to an emergency call (National Review). World News Tonight: A beloved Catholic Bishop found shot to death in the middle of the afternoon in his Los Angeles home. Police are launching a murder investigation, and now searching for those responsible (Twitter). Clara Harter: I’m in Hacienda Heights where Bishop David O’Connell, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, was shot to death earlier today. Parishioners gather at the scene of the crime to mourn and pray for their beloved leader (Twitter).

As Biden Visits Ukraine, Republicans Condemn His Actions
Fox News: Republican lawmakers from the House and Senate criticized President Biden’s unannounced trip to Kiev, Ukraine, on Monday and said it shows Biden is more interested in Ukraine than the crisis at the border or the release of toxic chemicals into the air and water in East Palestine, Ohio. Freshman Senator Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., added to the mounting Republican criticism in a tweet Monday by saying, “If you want to understand why so many Americans are frustrated right now: Biden is in Ukraine before Ohio” (Fox News). Tommy Tuberville: POTUS has now spent more time in Ukraine than he has at our southern border. Joe Biden refuses to address the AMERICAN crisis that will impact generations and poses an immediate threat to our national security (Twitter). Hill: It’s his first visit to the country since Russia invaded Ukraine late last February (Hill).

President Biden Announces Half a Billion in Ukrainian Aid with Promises to Pay Pensions of Ukrainian Citizens
Hill: President Biden on Monday announced the U.S. would be providing $500 million in additional military aid to Ukraine during a surprise visit to Kyiv, and he teased new sanctions to crack down on entities aiding Russia’s war efforts in the country. Biden, appearing alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, touted the sizable commitment of military equipment the U.S. and its allies have already provided Ukraine in the year since Russian first invaded (Hill). Maze: Biden on aid to Ukraine – “It’s going to allow pensions and social support to be paid to the Ukrainian people so they have something in their pocket.” Biden is guaranteeing pensions and welfare for Ukrainians but can’t guarantee aid for Ohio. America last (Twitter). Rep. Thomas Massie: Biden bragged about paying pensions for Ukrainians, But we hit the debt limit and his Treasury Secretary is taking “extraordinary measures,” Which means Biden is now literally selling investments of US pensions to fund Ukrainian pensions (Twitter).

Whoopi Goldberg to Nikki Haley: "You're not a new generation”
HotAir: Whoopi Goldberg, a fan of 80 year-old President Biden, joined the Don Lemon crowd in suggesting that Nikki Haley is over the hill and not not really fit to be president. She doesn’t QUITE put it as crudely as Lemon, but she gets the point across nonetheless (HotAir). Nicholas Fondacaro: Whoopi Goldberg echoes her pal Don Lemon’s “past her prime” attack on Nikki Haley. “You’re not a new generation! You’re 51! What are you talking about?!” she sneered. Adding: “She may be younger .. (but) he’s saying the same BS” (Twitter). Daily Wire: In the wake of Lemon’s comments, critics have called for the former primetime anchor to be ousted from the network altogether. Lemon spent the weekend away — missing Monday’s broadcast — but CNN denied reports that his vacation had anything to do with the backlash to his comments (Daily Wire).

Pipe Bomb Found Behind Catholic Church in Philadelphia
Fox 29: Philadelphia police sources tell Fox an 18-inch pipe bomb was found Sunday, just after 1:30 p.m., behind St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, on the 8500 block of Frankford Avenue, in Philadelphia’s Holmesburg section. Officials say a passerby found the pipe bomb, and noted it was a PVC pipe with capped ends and black powder on it (Fox 29). Andy Ngo: An 18-inch pipe bomb was found behind St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Holmesburg, Philadelphia. Since the rumored & subsequent overturning of Roe v. Wade last year, Catholic churches have been increasingly targeted across the US (Twitter).

Ron DeSantis Criticizes NYC Crime Policy During Pro-Police Tour
Daily Wire: Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis, a staunch defender of law enforcement, is making a tour around the country to meet and support law enforcement officers. DeSantis will visit areas of New York City, Philadelphia, and Chicago, reportedly discussing his own efforts in Florida vis-à-vis law enforcement. At the end of 2022, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement announced the state’s crime rate fell 8% from 2021, reportedly the lowest crime rate in the state in 50 years (Daily Wire). Washington Examiner: The Republican governor, who is a possible presidential contender in 2024, attended an event focused on law enforcement and crime prevention on Staten Island, where he was a special guest. DeSantis used his speech to cast the state’s criminal justice system as dysfunctional and dominated by ineffectual politics. DeSantis accused New York Democrats of trying to “out-woke” one another, something he said has led to issues with the Empire State’s bail laws (Washington Examiner).

Alec Baldwin’s Maximum Sentence is Now 18 Months Instead of Five Years
Fox News: Alec Baldwin is no longer facing years behind bars in connection to the fatal shooting of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Prosecutors dropped the firearms enhancement originally brought against Baldwin. First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies filed the paperwork Monday morning. If Baldwin had been convicted of the involuntary manslaughter charge and firearms enhancement, the “30 Rock” actor would have faced a mandatory five years in jail. The max jail time he faces now is 18 months (Fox News).

Spencer Brown: James O’Keefe — the infamous exposer of liberal wrongs who founded Project Veritas in 2010 and developed the organization into a fearsome specter to mainstream media, progressive organizations, and Democrat politicians — announced on Monday that he had been “removed” by his organization’s board and has “no position here based upon what the board has done” (Townhall). James O’Keefe: Since it’s already out there, here are my heartfelt remarks to my staff this morning. I need to make clear I have not resigned from the company, Project Veritas, I founded 13 years ago. I was stripped of my position as CEO and Chairman. Top Five Dirtiest Cities in US Run by Democrats
Fox News: The top five dirtiest cities in the country are run by Democrat mayors, a new study has found. Among 152 of the biggest cities across the United States, Houston won the No. 1 spot for dirtiest city, followed by Newark, New Jersey, San Bernardino, California, Detroit and Jersey City, New Jersey. LawnStarter measured each city across four categories: pollution, which measures things like air quality and greenhouse gas emissions; living conditions, like the percentage of homes containing mold or rats; infrastructure, which measures waste output and regulations; and consumer satisfaction, or the percentage of residents who find the city dirty (Fox News). New York Post: The cleanest city in the country, by contrast, is Virginia Beach, which ranked No. 149 on pollution and No. 132 on consumer satisfaction. The mayor of Virginia Beach is Robert Dyer, a Republican. “For the second consecutive year, Virginia Beach, Virginia, outshines all other cities in our ranking,” the study said (New York Post).

Another Big Earthquake Hits Turkey
Hill: A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit the Hatay province in Turkey on Monday as the country continues to recover from a devastating bout of quakes two weeks ago that killed tens of thousands in the nation and neighboring Syria. Turkey’s disaster management agency, AFAD, recorded two 6.4 and 5.8 magnitude shakes in the Hatay area around the Turkey-Syria border and reported that response teams are on the alert amid subsequent aftershocks. AFAD is warning citizens to stay away from the coastline as a precaution against potentially rising sea levels in the wake of the quake (Hill). NBC: Secretary of State Antony Blinken had visited Turkey a day earlier, announcing additional humanitarian aid Sunday that brought total U.S. earthquake assistance in Turkey and Syria to $185 million. The United Nations has appealed worldwide for more than $1.4 billion for relief operations (NBC).
