Right now, two out of every three North American bird species face an increasing risk of extinction as the climate crisis worsens, including those like the Allen’s Hummingbird that play a unique role in the health and biodiversity of our planet. At a time when we’ve already lost 3 billion birds in the last 50 years, we can’t let any more critical species disappear.
The Allen’s Hummingbird is a species in a worrying decline. Their populations have plummeted by a staggering 88% since 1970—and without immediate climate action, they could lose most of their wintering range by the end of the century. And because this essential pollinator plays a unique role in their surrounding ecosystem, few species will fill the void when they are gone—extending the impact to all the plant species they pollinate.

With more than a century of protecting birds under our wing, Audubon knows how to deliver hands-on conservation efforts that are locally focused and guided by region- and bird-specific expertise. With the support of bird lovers like you, we’re defending the laws that protect birds at risk, advocating for strong legislation like the Growing Climate Solutions Act, keeping important landscapes and waters resilient, and fighting for the bold climate action birds need now.
