Folks,As we celebrate Presidents' Day, I’m reminded of moments in the past couple of years that tested the strength of our democracy.
But, the same values our country was founded on have also guided us through recent moments of turmoil and division. Specifically, I think of the timeless examples set by George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. These two leaders, both in different eras, faced unique hardships that shaped our country and the democratic principles we cherish.
Washington led with an unmatched sense of integrity, demonstrating that we should set high standards when choosing who to lead our country. He warned that partisanship could undermine our democratic institutions, encouraging us to work together to address the most pressing issues our country faces.
Lincoln guided our country through its most intense period of division and demonstrated that democracy, when used as a tool for progress, can change the course of history for the better. His leadership reminds us that we must continue to be voices for change and equality, justice, and equity.
As we look back at the example set by strong leaders, I’m grateful for President Biden’s leadership in the first two years of his presidency. I’m proud to have joined forces with him to restore faith in our democratic institutions and strengthen our democracy through challenging times. In a moment when our country needed a leader to take on the tough battles of protecting our rights and securing our democracy, President Biden stepped up.
The best way we can honor the example set by these presidents is by resolving to work with one another to find common ground and empower Americans to reach higher heights. As your Congresswoman, I’m committed to doing exactly that.
