John,

This Black History Month, we are so grateful to have you join our mission to expand the electorate in Pennsylvania, to include historically disenfranchised and often ignored Black, Indigenous, immigrants and other people of color, and the youth to achieve a more reflective and representative democracy. We honor Black history by remembering all those who fought for freedom, and those who continue to move the needle forward for prosperous Black futures.

"You may be pretty or plain, heavy or thin, gay or straight, poor or rich. But remember this: In an election, every voice is equally powerful - don't underestimate your vote. Voting is the great equalizer." -- Maya Angelou

On the ballot, our voices are equal, and we have the power to make them loud. Getting access to the ballot, however, is not so simple.

The promise of American democracy is a government of the people, by the people, for the people. For centuries, people in power have suppressed the voices of Black, Indigenous, and other people of color. While we have come a long way, oppressive efforts continue to this day, and the promise of a true representative democracy is still a work in progress.

Until it is made real for all of us, it is not real for any of us.

As a voting rights organization, the New Pennsylvania Project, will continue to fight back against harmful and restrictive legislation that would errect barriers and make it harder to vote, all while advocating for legislation to make it easier for all Pennsylvanians to access the ballot and vote.

Thank you for all you do to help us succeed.

The New Pennsylvania Project was founded in May 2021 to expand Pennsylvania’s electorate, so it reflects the Commonwealth’s demographically changing population. In the next four years, NPP will engage and empower young residents and those living in underrepresented immigrant communities and communities of color. We register communities to vote, provide civic education about the issues that matter in their neighborhoods, and mobilize Pennsylvanians to vote in every election.
