** Welcome to my Spring 2023 newsletter
------------------------------------------------------------
After a very difficult 2022, I hope that this year will see an easing of some problems which have affected everyone. I expect to see inflation coming down, and stability return to the economy. Locally we can see the progress of exciting new developments such as the Newtown Studios, and Phase 2 of Ashford College. But I know there is so much more to do, and I will continue to work hard to improve conditions locally and nationally. In particular I want to see big improvements in social care.
** DCMS Committee
------------------------------------------------------------
I have been elected Acting Chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.
This year will undoubtably bring with it some major policy challenges in the world of DCMS, with online safety, the future of public sector broadcasting, sports governance and gambling all likely to feature high up on the agenda.

It always good to meet local businesses in Ashford, organised by he Federation of Small Business.
** Cancer Research
------------------------------------------------------------
As a long-time supporter of Cancer Research UK, I was happy to support #worldcancerday ([link removed]) . Great work is being done across the country.
** Ashford College
------------------------------------------------------------
I was very pleased to see the second phase of Ashford College underway. There will be an engineering hub offering T level courses.
** Julie Rose Stadium
------------------------------------------------------------
I joined the Deputy Mayor of Ashford, Matt Wickham and Cllr Matthew Forest at the Julie Rose Stadium. The stadium now has a brand new athletics track following a £300,000 investment on the new running surface by Ashford Borough Council.

Our Man in Westminster - The M20 & Sevington Lorry Park ([link removed])
I suspect I have written more columns in this space about the M20 and its problems than any other single issue over the years. This one is slightly different, in that it relates to an important area right next to the motorway, which could have a significant effect on it.
