John,
Happy Presidents’ Day! Here at Forward HQ, we are taking time to
reflect on the values and leadership of Presidents George Washington
and Abraham Lincoln and how they still shape our country
today.
In his
Farewell Address, President Washington warned of the dangers of
sectionalism and organizing centralized political parties. He
recognized that when we enter political camps designed on an “us vs.
them” mentality and prioritize power over cooperation, political
parties weaken the government’s ability to lead
effectively.
In his
famous “House Divided” speech, then-Senate candidate Lincoln reminded
us that a government constantly jostling with itself for power cannot
lead and, ultimately, deprives the governed of their
rights.
The Forward Party is dedicated to
course-correcting the path that bitterly partisan politics has led our
country down. Our dedication
to free people, thriving communities and vibrant democracy is guided
by the vision of these two leaders. But beyond that,
it’s guided by the vision of the people we serve and by
their dedication to improving our communities.
Thank you
for being with us on this journey, for sharing your thoughts on how to
strengthen our democracy, and for helping move our country Forward,
together. We hope you have a great Presidents’ Day.
Best, The Forward Party
