Friends —
In just a minute, I'm going to ask you to split a contribution — of $5 or anything you can — between my sister in service Rashida Tlaib and our campaign.
Let me explain why this ask is so important, especially today:
Even before our first term in Congress together in 2019, Rashida and I both have been driven by our commitment to the communities we serve, and to improving the lives of working people all across this country.
We're both immensely proud of the progress our movement has made, and to be able to serve as role models for women, people of color, Muslims, immigrants, and people of all marginalized backgrounds and identities as we fight for policies to move our country forward.
But as the first Muslim women in Congress, it hasn't always been easy. We've had to endure a lot.
Together Rashida and I have faced countless death threats, constant harassment, and even violent threats from our colleagues in the House of Representatives — not to mention millions of dollars in outside campaign spending from bigoted, dark-money special interests hellbent on silencing our voices.
You may remember earlier this month, when Kevin McCarthy and the Republican Party voted to kick me off the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
It was a cowardly act of revenge, and served to rally the right wing and weaponize hate against anyone who shares my background.
We already know that these attacks are just beginning, and that Rashida and I are two of the GOP's top targets this campaign cycle. That's because of who we are, and who we fight for.
It's so important that our progressive movement continue to stand together in solidarity as we always have, and be ready for what's next — which is why I have to ask:
Can you split a contribution — of $5 or anything you can — between mine and Rashida's campaigns for Congress today? Together we can continue to build a future based on love, not hate.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
I know that I can speak for Rashida when I say that neither of us — no matter what the right wing throws our way — will ever give up in our movement's collective struggle for justice.
Thank you, as always, for standing with us in the fight.
In solidarity,
Ilhan Omar
