K-12 students from across the district helped out by making cards and writing letters expressing gratitude and well wishes. Andrew thanks all of this year's participants for coming together for this special project. ANDREW IN THE NEWS Key group dissents from House GOP bill to make Trump tax cuts permanent " On Monday, Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) and 72 of his colleagues introduced a bill that would make permanent nearly two dozen tax provisions that were part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and are set to sunset after 2025. But the Washington Examiner learned on Tuesday that some GOP lawmakers are objecting to the legislation as currently written because it extends a cap on state and local tax deductions...'While there are some tax cuts and other provisions of the law that we would like to see extended, the SALT cap is not one of them,” said Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY). 'The Republican members of the SALT Caucus will not vote for a SALT deduction cap extension.' The SALT Caucus is a group of Democratic and Republican lawmakers who have banded together during the last Congress and this new one to fight for the SALT cap to be raised or eliminated. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Attends Opening of New Hospital Maturnity Unit This week, Andrew attended Catholic Health Good Samaritan University Hospital’s ribbon cutting for their new Mother-Baby unit. This new unit will expand the number of patient rooms equipped with the latest technologies available to serve Long Island mothers and their newborn children. Andrew applauds Good Samaritan for its commitment to improving patient care and maternal health, an issue of great importance to so many families and to our community at large. Andrew Recognizes Service of Wyandanch Wheatley Heights Ambulance President This week was the Wyandanch-Wheatley Heights Ambulance 40th Annual Installation Dinner. Andrew provided a certificate and commemorative flag honoring Patricia "Mary" Anastasio who passed away in October. She served as president of the Wyandanch Wheatley Heights Ambulance Corporation for more than 35 years. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Fights To Protect U.S. Citizens' Voice In Our Democracy The sacred right to vote in American elections is reserved for U.S. citizens and U.S. citizens alone. However, some cities, including New York City and Washington, D.C., have sought to allow non-citizen voting in local elections. That's why Andrew recently became a cosponsor of H.R.149, the Protecting Our Democracy by Preventing Foreign Citizens from Voting Act. He also recently voted for H.J. Res. 24, Disapproving the action of the District of Columbia Council in approving the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022. Andrew is committed to protecting American's voice in democracy and stands firmly against noncitizen voting. Financial Services Committee Holds Hearing On Improving Small Business Access To Capital The Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Capital Markets, on which Andrew serves as Vice Chair, recently held a hearing, entitled: “Empowering Entrepreneurs: Removing Barriers to Capital Access for Small Businesses.” The purpose of this hearing was to examine policies designed to reduce barriers preventing small businesses and entrepreneurs from accessing capital and reaching their potential.
