Reaching 3 million donations before Iowa would be a powerful statement about the strength of our movement. Elizabeth is counting on you to help get there: Make a contribution of any amount right now.
I'm no stranger to tough fights.
When I went to Washington to talk about my idea for a government agency to protect consumers from financial scams, I kept hearing the same thing over and over again: Great idea, but it'll never happen. The big banks and their armies of lobbyists won't let it become law.
But we got organized, we built a grassroots movement, and fought back — and created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
When I first ran for the U.S. Senate, I started out 17 points down from the popular Republican incumbent who had truckfulls of campaign cash from Wall Street. I was told "a woman can't win here."
But then we did — by 7.5 points.
And when I made the decision to run my presidential campaign the right way — without spending my time sucking up to rich donors and asking them for donations at closed-door fundraisers — some cynics said that our campaign would struggle to raise the money we need.
But we've proved them wrong. And today, our campaign has received over 2.9 million contributions and three million is within reach.
This will be a huge milestone for our grassroots movement — and I'm grateful to every single person (like you) who has helped grow the movement we have today.
Plenty of people will be quick to tell you what you can't do or what you shouldn't fight for. But it takes hope and courage to make real change — and that's what we've done, and will continue to do, together.
