VIDEO OF THE DAY: Fox News hit with stunning news in defamation trial
The right-wing propaganda operation's top "talent" privately ridiculed both Trump's conspiracies and their own viewers who bought into them, but chose to incessantly amplify the bullshit, defaming a corporation, inciting violence, and deliberately jeopardizing US democracy. Now Dominion Voting Systems wants them to pay $1.6 billion for defamation.

Norfolk Southern lobbied Transportation Sec. Buttigieg against stricter train safety proposal
Representatives from Norfolk Southern, the multi-billion-dollar company behind the disastrous train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, met with federal officials in November and December — including Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg — to push back on a proposed rule requiring two crew members on board most trains, specifically to help during rail emergencies. Norfolk Southern, which successfully lobbied then-President Trump to roll back other critical safety protocols, complained the new rule would increase labor costs. Got it.

California city bans people from living in tents amid homeless crisis
Culver City's new anti-camping ordinance aimed at clearing out homeless encampments has been met with fierce criticism from leaders, residents, and advocates who accuse city leaders of turning unhoused residents into criminals. California, home to 170,000 unhoused residents, is the epicenter of the nation's homeless crisis, and dehumanizing, whack-a-mole policies aimed at simply clearing camps from high-visibility areas will do nothing to fix the underlying problems.

Ron DeSantis injects chaos into the Chicago mayoral race
The one-time Trump ally definitely never referred to as "Meatball Ron" is taking his job as Florida governor very seriously. So seriously, in fact, that he's carving out time to fly to Chicago to muck about in the Windy City's upcoming mayoral election on Feb. 28. DeSantis' upcoming speaking engagement with the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police prompted a cascade of condemnations, accusations, and infighting among the nine candidates vying for the mayor's office.

Trump can't let go of "Meatball Ron" DeSantis insult in late-night meltdown
The disgraced ex-president continued lobbing childhood insults at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, declaring in a late-night social media screed on Saturday that he still intends to refer to his possible 2024 rival as “Ron DeSanctimonious,” despite “fake news” suggesting that he wants to brand the governor “Meatball”
Ron. Editor’s note: Last week we ran the headline, “Trump gets saucy with spicy new nickname for DeSantis,” referring to “Meatball Ron." We regret nothing.
East Palestine, Ohio residents told water was safe after "sloppy" testing paid for by negligent rail company
Thousands of people in East Palestine, Ohio, have been assured by state Republican officials that the town's municipal water has not been contaminated by the catastrophic train derailment earlier this month, but the only publicly available data comes from testing that was funded by Norfolk Southern, the company responsible for the crash. Uh, yeah, we're gonna need a second opinion, folks.

Lawsuit claims nun boozed-up orphans so priest could molest them
Plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed against the Catholic Diocese of Dallas accused a nun in the 1960s of facilitating heinous, ongoing sexual assaults at the Dunne Memorial Home for Boys. The nun reportedly would awaken the boys at night, take them to the basement, make them drink alcohol and undress, and leave them in the dark — where the late Rev. Henry McGill would then molest them. There are no words.
Ron DeSantis took advantage of AP classes he now wants to deny Florida kids
Of COURSE he did.
Fox News executives refused to let Trump on-air when he called in during January 6 insurrection, calling it "irresponsible" to do so
Good to know the well-heeled bottom feeders at Fox News who momentarily stood up to Trump for a few hours that fateful day had the temerity and courage to re-embrace him the moment they realized that's where the money was.
George Santos' sister, who gave tens of thousands to his campaign while skipping rent, settles eviction case
Tiffany Lee Devolder Santos agreed to pay her former landlord $19,525 in years of unpaid rent. Tiffany, the sister of current US Rep. and New York's original delegate to the Continental Congress of 1774, George Santos, received $30,000 in COVID emergency rental assistance, but hadn't made a single rental payment since March of 2020. She did, however, manage to donate nearly $30,000 to her brother’s campaign and other Republican causes during that time. What a coincidence!
