Dear Comrade,,
This is a busy week for Akron DSA. On Monday, we have our February General Meeting. You can come in person or join via zoom. There’s a lot to talk about, and we will be getting everyone up to speed on all the activities of the last month and discussing our plans going forward.
Thursday, Feb 23 at 6p is the second meeting in our Reimagining Public Safety Campaign. This month we will be discussing Cannabis Justice at the North Hill Branch Library. Please sign up here and join us as we learn about and discuss the harm that the war on drugs has had, specifically around cannabis and especially within the black community. We have a few reading materials that we recommend you check out ahead of time for more lively discussion:
And we’ve added a movie with your comrades on Saturday, Feb 25 at Odom Branch library at 2p: Riotsville, USA is a true-life documentary about fictional towns built in the U.S. to train police and military in riot suppression. . Using all archival footage, the film explores the militarization of the police and creates a counter-narrative to the nation's reaction to the uprisings of the late '60s. We’ll bring some snacks to share.
You can still help the people of and around East Palestine, Ohio and sign up to help and donate to the mutual aid fund.
