January/February 2023 PRA kicked off 2023 with programming ranging from careful discussions on White Christian supremacy to the use of rage in transformative justice, and how to combat anti-LGBTQ organizing in the year ahead. On 1/25, panelists Bradley Onishi, Zhandarka Kurti, and Steven Gardiner discussed the Right’s vision for a White, Christian USA and the tactics they use to bring their authoritarian vision to life in our webinar “Embodying White Christian Supremacy: From Deputizing Citizens to Flying the Blue Lives Matter Flag”. Panelists also shared strategies to combat the rise of authoritarian forces, with PRA Research Director Steven Gardiner contributing, “The fight is three-sided and if you focus on the institutions where people hold the most power, you get blindsided…the fractures that opened between the various elements of people who were coming under attack, they were intentionally wedged open by right-wing social movements.” Watch this incisive conversation here. On 1/31, PRA hosted a briefing on anti-LGBTQ organizing—what trends we witnessed in 2022, and what to expect in 2023. Panelists Brandon Wolf, Gin Pham, Heron Greenesmith, and Kwyn Townsend Riley laid out the strategies they use to combat anti-LGBTQ organizing, and what they hope to see in the year ahead. Watch the webinar “Organizing for the Year Ahead: Countering Anti-LGBTQ Violence and Persecution in 2023” here. Finally, earlier this week, in collaboration with PRA, Religion Dispatches hosted a discussion on rage. Panelists Alex Zamalin, Davin Phoenix, and Myisha Cherry untangled the role that rage and civility play in our political discourse, and how these emotions—rage, pride and hurt—are weaponized against people of color, while used to justify the violent actions of White people. Watch the recording of the webinar here. The transcript of this webinar will be available next week on our website. Stay tuned for future programing, including an Inform Your Giving series on Funding the Fight. We look forward to seeing you at our future webinars.
