Happy World Pangolin Day!

Hi John,

It's sad but true - gentle pangolins are the most trafficked mammal on the planet. The demand for their meat and scales has driven populations to near extinction. Unless we act now, these unique creatures could disappear forever.

Pangolins are fascinating, covered in spikey scales made of keratin, the same material as human hair and nails, with eight different species found in Africa and Asia.

Did You Know?

Pangolins are the only mammals with scales. When threatened, they roll into a tight ball, using their scales for protection.Excellent diggers, they use long claws to dig into termite mounds. They have no teeth, but use long, sticky tongues to catch ants and termites. They are solitary and mostly active at night. They are endangered due to habitat loss, poaching and trafficking.

Pangolins’ body armour protects them from natural predators, but humans are a different story. Shy and nocturnal, they are easy targets for traffickers eager for profit. One of the world’s most poached, trafficked and endangered species, they urgently need our help.

Pangolin meat is considered a delicacy and their scales used in traditional medicines. If we don't take action to protect them, these amazing creatures could disappear forever.
