Railroad unions warned us train derailments like the one in Ohio would happen if the railroad industry continued to operate virtually un-checked. While workers put everything on the line to speak up and try to prevent disasters like this, Pete Buttigieg, Secretary of Transport, is throwing up his hands.
Pete Buttigieg claims there’s nothing he can do, purposefully misleading the public and allowing the railroad industry off the hook yet again. Meanwhile, millions of metric tons of toxic chemicals are spreading through Ohio and beyond.
His behavior is nothing more than a handout to an industry that continues to harm workers and put all of us at risk with its cost-cutting, dangerous practices. Railroad companies like Norfolk Southern can’t be allowed to operate in such flagrantly dangerous ways. Enough is enough.
