Let’s talk about early voting.
Over the past several years, Pennsylvania has gone through changes in our election laws - both through the implementation of widespread vote by mail and then with the unprecedented use of that service through the pandemic. This combined with increasing voter turnout has shown the many barriers to access that our voters face when they try to exercise their civic duty.
Don’t get me wrong - large voter turnout is a wonderful thing to have, but compared to many other states, Pennsylvania still lags behind in terms of modern election reform.
One way we can make voting more accessible is by allowing early in-person voting in Pennsylvania.
A few weeks ago, I cosponsored legislation to allow for early in-person voting, starting 30 days before an election and ending on the day before Election Day. Early in-person voting would take place at the county board of elections and at designated polling places chosen by the county board similar to what exists in most states. This is a common sense, bipartisan way to expand voter access.
