Hi John,

We’ve got one more chance to finalise a Treaty to help protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030, and we need your help to do it.

Next week, governments are gathering at the United Nations (UN) for what must be the last time to secure a Global Ocean Treaty.

We’re closer than ever to securing protection for our oceans, and taking a big step towards the vital 30x30 target. More than 384,000 people have joined our movement pushing for world leaders to ensure our blue planet is protected, and finally reach an agreement on a Global Ocean Treaty.

You've already added your name, now can you help pile the pressure on the UK Government to act by sharing our petition with your friends and family?

Last year’s negotiations got us closer than ever to securing protection for our oceans. But ultimately talks failed because governments like the UK, EU and US brought too little to the table, too late. [1]

But new round start on Monday and they couldn’t be more urgent. Healthy oceans are vital for ensuring the livelihoods and food security for billions of people. But, it’s going to take all of us to keep the pressure up.

A strong Global Ocean Treaty would:
- Establish fully or highly protected ocean sanctuaries across the high seas
- Adopt a definition of Marine Protected Area that allows for fully protected sanctuaries, free from destructive human activity
- Provide a pathway to ocean sanctuaries covering at least 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030
- Ensure everyone benefits from the ocean and both recognises and strengthens the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities and the importance of their knowledge in protecting marine biodiversity

The number of threats to our world’s oceans grow each day, but a Global Ocean Treaty could provide the protection that is so desperately needed.

Thanks for everything you do,

Grace
Greenpeace UK
