Republicans in the House of Representatives have introduced a bill that would institute a 30% national sales tax on EVERYTHING you buy.

This would require everyone, no matter how poor or rich, to pay the same tax rate. However, according to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP), it would require a national sales tax of at least 60% to make up for the lost revenue.

This GOP tax on everything we buy — groceries, cars, homes, health care — would disproportionately impact working families. Republicans profess to care about inflation, but this new legislation would increase out-of-pocket expenses on everything you buy.

Under this proposal, billionaires would pay the same 30% tax rate under the national sales tax that teachers, firefighters, truck drivers, and nurses would pay. To have a fair tax system billionaires should be paying a much higher tax rate than the rest of us.
