John, the Senate just wrapped up another week in session, and our state work period for the holiday weekend is about to begin. But that’s not the point of why I’m writing to you today.

Instead, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what I’ve been thinking about as this new session of Congress starts to pick up speed.

Republicans won a majority in the House, albeit narrowly, and due in part to some brutal gerrymanders, many of which are facing court challenges or have already ordered to be redrawn for violating the Voting Rights Act.

While I’m not going to let that stop me from making progress for working families (and probably stirring up a bit of good trouble), it does make me think about what’s to come in the near future.

Mitch McConnell is determined to take control of the Senate. So much so that the National Republican Senatorial Committee is already running attack ads targeting our Democrat-held seats in Ohio, Montana, and West Virginia – all states Trump won in 2020.

Clearly, we have our work cut out for us in these upcoming elections. But we can’t let that discourage us.

It took grit, passion, and a whole lot of hard work to elect Rev. Raphael Warnock, John Fetterman, Catherine Cortez Masto, Maggie Hassan, and Mark Kelly. Battleground states like the ones they represent are never easy fights.

But giving up is not an option. Not when so much is at risk.

House Republicans are threatening to default on our government’s debt — which would cause a global economic collapse by refusing to raise the debt ceiling — in order to gut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. They want a nationwide abortion ban. And more.

If Republicans won total control over Congress, all of the progress we accomplished in the past few years would be reversed.

This isn’t the path that the people of this country want to take. Instead, we need to chart a course for our future generations centered around caring for our communities, climate, and children.

So what do we do right now?

We can follow through on this promise: To not just show up at election time, but all the time to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we’re elected to represent.

It’s going to take all of us doing our part and pitching in what we can to win in states like the ones Senate Republicans are already targeting.

That’s why I’m humbly asking: John, will you chip in $10, or any amount today so that we can start building the resources necessary to defend our Senate majority?
