John,
Today marks the 10th Anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in the Citizens United case that corporations could spend unlimited amounts of money to influence our elections.

I’m running for Attorney General because I’ve been on the front lines of the fight to take back our elections. I even beat Trump in court over dark money and won.

I know how to win this battle. Will you join me?

Montana has a unique history with corporate spending in our elections. Over 100 years ago we passed a law banning corporations from spending money in our elections. This was known as the Corrupt Practices Act and it was in response to the corruption of the Copper Kings buying our government and politicians. Montanans fought back and won.

The Citizens United decision did away with this law and ushered in a new era of corporate spending in Montana. But Montanans fought back again, and we won.

Under Governor Bullock’s leadership, Montana passed the most progressive campaign finance law in the country after Citizens United. But we didn’t stop there.

Last year, Governor Bullock
asked me to go to Court ([link removed]) to hold the Trump administration and the IRS accountable for helping dark money groups cover their tracks. We won.

Then, at the Governor’s request,
I drafted the first executive order ([link removed]) in the nation that requires corporations to disclose all their political spending when they apply for government contracts. If you want taxpayer dollars, then you have to disclose how you tried to influence our elected leaders.

I also authored and helped shepherd the passage of a law banning foreign money in Montana ([link removed]) , one of the first responses by a U.S. state following Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Montana has been on the front lines of this battle against corporate influence for the past decade--leading by example and showing the nation we can fight back and win.

That's why this election cycle--and electing an Attorney General who works for us--is so important.

Without an independent watchdog in the Attorney General’s office, these outside groups will come back.

Just look at the
Koch Network announcing ([link removed]) last week they will spend more in the 2020 elections than ever before. They are determined to turn back the progress we have made and install an AG who works for them, not for the people of Montana.

That’s why I’m running to be your next Attorney General. I know how to fight dark money, and I know how to win.

What we learned since Citizens United is we can still elect a government that works for us and only us.

We know we can hold the powerful accountable and we have the ability to do so.

Montanans, Republicans or Democrats, all agree that corporate influence in our elections is bad for our state and is not a Montana value we hold.

As your next Attorney General, I will never be bought by these outside groups and I will always defend and uphold our values of fair and free elections in Montana.

Sincerely,

-Raph Graybill
