2023 has just started and at least 50 Palestinians, including 11 children, have been murdered by Israel. Unfortunately, this is nothing new. Palestinians have been facing deadly raids, violence, censorship, and bombings at the hands of Israel since the start of the Nakba in 1948. Yet, those who take Birthright, a free, 10-day trip to Israeloffered to young Jews, are purposely cut off from the conditions of Palestinians living just miles away. 



This is why we at CODEPINK have decided to take a stand against Birthright. I’m excited to announce our new “Boycott Birthright <[link removed]>” campaign, which will be pressuring the JNF and JUF in Chicago to get out of our universities and STOP funding Birthright!

Birthright trips erase the history of Palestine and Palestinians, and exclude the occupation entirely from its narrative. Instead, attendees are provided with a propagandized perspective of Israeli entitlement and Arab aggression, which is heightened by a constant presence of Israeli Occupation Force (IOF) soldiers. Birthright trips are funded by the State of Israel, many Jewish organizations, individual donors, and more. More specifically, the Jewish National Fund (JNF) and the Jewish United Fund (JUF) are two significant donors.

Birthright is deeply complicit in the occupation. It encourages young Jews to immigrate to and settle in Israel, while Palestinians are continually denied the right of return. Israel has even made plans to legalize illegal settlements in the West Bank, asserting its control over the region. We are tired of seeing our own peers take this propaganda trip. We call on our supporters, and anyone who is considering going on Birthright to refuse to contribute to the occupation.



It is impossible to challenge the occupation by taking Birthright. That's why it's important to support BDS and boycott Birthright!
